Analysts estimate 4.2 million copies of the eagerly awaited halo 3 were shipped to retailers, and Microsoft claims over 1.6 million units have been preordered.
Given the massive amount of hype, many felt they had no choice but to buy Halo 3. This is partly due to the fact that Microsoft shelled out 10 million in marketing over the past few weeks. Even before launch day, achieved a level of media saturation typically seen only for movie blockbusters. Master Chief was popping up on snack bags, sodas and even Nascar Vehicles.
To kick of the retail initiative, Microsoft held four official launch events in Seattle, Miami, Los Angeles, and New York City. The real meat of Microsoft’s PR came in the form of 10,000 midnight releases throughout the country. In San Francisco, the biggest such event was at the EB Games on Powell Street, a block away from the world-famous Union Square. It brought such a mass of people that two police offiers were required to keep things under control.

amazing how one game-a vision spawned by 45 artists and 45 engineers could cause such a big impact. I gaurantee you if you asked the average teen what is going on with the current presedential debate or the war in iraq you would get a response that was less than conclusive. However, ask them about and they will fill your ear with every nugget of pre release information that was leaked to them. You know what, there is nothing wrong with that in my opinion.
