Halo 3 Release Date By ibnukasim
The Halo 3 original release date was Sept. 25 in North America and the 26th in Europe. It was a highly anticipated 3rd installment of what was already a popular game series. According to the vice president of Microsoft's interactive entertainment business Halo 3's release was more than just a video game release it was the biggest entertainment event of the year. He may have been right.
Halo: Combat Evolved really set the stage for the anticipation of the Halo 3 release date. In November of 2001 when Halo was first released game consoles were somewhat of a joke for first-person shooter games. There were many games, but none very popular. Halo combined battles on the land and in vehicles, with objectives and a compelling science fiction story. By limiting weapons a player could carry for the first time in a FPS game, Halo created new strategic levels to the genre.
People who waited for the release date awaited the continuation of a
first-person shooter combat format that had been prevalent in all the versions of Halo. Guns, grenades and hand to hand combat was widely known as the Golden triangle of the Halo series. The triangle wasn't new to first person shooters, but Microsoft marketing was the first to go into detail about it.
So with all of that history behind it, people were very excited over the release date. How popular and anticipated was the game? Retailers were worried that the 3.1 million copies made available to them wouldn't meet the demand. Its week one US sales topped the $300 million mark. It was the #1 game in the US in 2007 and to date has sold nearly eight and a half million copies. It made it to #7 on the critics' list of best Xbox 360 games of all time.
For some people the release date was an occasion much like Christmas. It leaves us with the question – what might happen with video game releases in the future?
